Services and prices
Level 1 — Safety Check & Torque — £40 (We come to you)
A full M-check of the bike, every fastener torqued to the manufacturer’s specification, and the running adjustments completed on site. The bike leaves safe, quiet and correctly set up, with a written record of any work that will be required later.
- Full M-check — frame, forks, wheels, headset, bars, cranks, drivetrain
- Every fastener torqued to the manufacturer’s spec with a calibrated wrench
- Brakes adjusted — pads aligned, levers set, cables tensioned
- Gears indexed so they shift cleanly across the block
- Tyre pressures set for your weight and riding
- Written condition report — the work carried out, and what the bike needs next
Level 2 — Full Strip Service — from £80 (Drop off, collect the same day)
The bike is stripped to components. Bearings serviced or replaced, drivetrain wear measured, then rebuilt and torqued to specification. Quoted once the bike has been assessed and the required parts identified. You approve the figure before anything is ordered.
- Bike stripped to components and degreased
- Hubs, bottom bracket and headset serviced — bearings replaced where they are past it
- Chain and cassette wear measured and reported before anything is replaced
- Brakes rebuilt and bled if hydraulic, cables and outers renewed if mechanical
- Wheels checked for true and tension
- Rebuilt and torqued to manufacturer spec, then road tested
- Written condition report — parts replaced, and what the bike needs next

Frequently asked questions
How much is a bike service in Oxford?
A basic service — the Level 1 Safety Check & Torque — is £40, carried out at your address. A full service — the Level 2 Full Strip Service — starts at £80 and is a drop-off at the Oxford workshop. Smaller individual jobs such as a puncture, gear indexing or a brake bleed are quoted per bike, because the same job differs considerably between a basic commuter and a hydraulic-braked road bike. You are given the figure before any work starts, and there is no call-out fee anywhere in Oxford or within about six miles of the city.
Do you come to me or do I drop the bike off?
Both, depending on the work. The Level 1 Safety Check & Torque and all à la carte jobs are carried out at your address — home, office or college — using the mobile kit. The Level 2 Full Strip Service requires a workbench, so it is a drop-off: bring the bike to the Oxford workshop in the morning and collect it the same evening.
What areas do you cover?
All of Oxford — Central Oxford, Jericho, Summertown, Headington, Cowley, Iffley, Marston, Botley, Osney, Grandpont, East Oxford and Wolvercote — plus surrounding villages within approximately six miles, including Kidlington, Cumnor, Wheatley, Yarnton and Eynsham. There is no call-out fee within that radius. If you are just outside it, get in touch — I will usually still attend.
Do you fix hydraulic disc brakes?
Yes. Hydraulic disc brakes are bled at £25 per brake using manufacturer bleed kits and the correct fluid for the system — mineral oil for Shimano, DOT for SRAM. Pad replacement, rotor truing and caliper alignment are also covered. Bleeding can be carried out at your address or as part of a full strip service.
What is the written condition report?
Every job, at both service levels, ends with a written condition report, and it covers two things. First, what was done: everything inspected, everything adjusted, and any parts replaced. Second, and more useful to you, what the bike needs next: measured wear on the chain, cassette and brake pads, any bearing or cable approaching the end of its service life, roughly how much riding you have left before each becomes a problem, and what it will cost to put right. You are never left guessing what condition the bike is in or what is coming. It also builds into a service history you can hand on if you ever sell it.
Do you service e-bikes?
Yes. E-bikes are serviced at both levels. All mechanical work is covered — brakes, gears, bearings and drivetrain. Motor and battery diagnostics are not; if the fault is electrical I will identify it as such and refer you to an appropriate dealer. E-bikes are heavier and wear chains and cassettes faster, so the condition report on an e-bike is worth reading closely.
How long does a bike service take?
A Level 1 Safety Check & Torque takes approximately one hour at your address. A Level 2 Full Strip Service occupies a full day at the workshop — dropped off between 08:30 and 09:30 and ready to collect that evening. À la carte jobs such as a puncture repair or gear index take fifteen to thirty minutes.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. I hold Velotech Silver certification — the recognised UK cycle mechanic standard covering hydraulic braking systems, bearing service, wheel truing and full drivetrain work — and carry public liability insurance for work at customer addresses and at the workshop, along with custody cover for bicycles left in my care. Documentation is available on request.
How do I pay?
In person on completion, by card or bank transfer. The booking form does not request card details and no payment is taken in advance. For a Level 2 strip service, you approve the final figure before any parts are ordered.
What happens if my bike needs parts?
You are told before anything is fitted, and given the cost. On a job at your address I carry common consumables — cables, pads, tubes and chains. On a strip service, component wear is measured first, the figure is sent to you, and parts are ordered only once you have approved it. Nothing is replaced while it still has measurable service life remaining.
Do I need to book in advance?
Usually a few days. This is a deliberately low-volume workshop taking a handful of bikes each week, so slots are limited and the booking page shows only genuine availability. If the work is urgent, book the nearest slot and note it in the description, and I will accommodate it where possible.
Can you fix a puncture at my house?
Yes. Punctures are carried out at your address from £12, typically in about fifteen minutes. If the tyre casing is worn through or the rim tape has failed, I will show you the cause and advise what it needs, rather than returning the bike to service on a repair that will not hold.
